Thanks to the medication prescribed a few months ago I feel able again to drive to Romania; last year we flew and I still ended up in A&E! It was a big problem having to hire cars – €1000 guarantee because of my age so I was driving stressed most of the time. I’m looking forward to taking Dusty the Dacia to his home country 😜, leaving on 25 July.

Medication accumulated, Levothyroxine and Xtandi keep me bright eyed and bushy tailed. Xtandi and Zoladex will, hopefully, keep me alive. My lovely nurse here in the UK, Hafsa, tells me the needle of the Zoladex implant is “like a screwdriver”; I’ve never dared look. The due date for one to be put in is midway through our Romania stay but I’m certain the Romanian nurses will be just as competent.
A lot of thinking has to go into what to take as, spacious though the Dacia is, it is no comparison with the VW camper but for sure I couldn’t do the trip in that now. The trip to the English Lakes was about as far as I could manage. Looks like a lot of meds but the biggest problem there will be the temperature in Romania – not for me, I love 30-35degC, but the Xtandi is supposed to be stored no higher than 25degC.
Feeling much better than for a few years I’m hoping to document the trip far better than last year or the year before, with regular posts here supplemented by a Facebook group for shorter posts. So, two years ago it was almost exclusively on a Facebook group ‘Lofty to Romania‘; this year look out for ‘Dusty to Romania‘ on Facebook but, I hope, more substantial posts by grumpytyke. Romania merits it.

Well, I am so happy you didn’t forget about me 🙂 I am looking forward to meeting you and Petronela. I would really like to go camping again like in the old days. Warm greetings ❤ . Take care! Drive safely 🙂

So, you’re a long-distance driver, my friend 🙂 Romania is waiting for you with open arms. But you already know that. Which part of Romania will you visit?
Mo-hugs ❤

We’ll be crossing two of, for me, the most beautiful parts of Romania – Maramures and Bucovina where I have lots of friends (I love Romanian tradition and, as you will know, this is where it is best preserved) to arrive in Iasi where Petronela’s parents live. Then we’ll go back to Bucovina for a while. We may visit friends who have a campsite in Transylvania, Saliste, another favourite part. When we’re not in Iasi we’ll be camping. I did think of coming to Bucuresti to see you and another bilingual blogger friend, Iulia Halatz, an English teacher, but the return night train from Iasi, even couchette, is now too expensive (the journey during the day would make me ill). What a difference to when I first arrived in Romania – I think about 1,700 old lei from Suceava. Long distance drive? The mo-hugs, and wrestling with the Romanian version of your book will keep me going 😃😘.

I’ve never visited Maramures and Bucovina but I have time, right? I know they are beautiful regions and well preserved.
Camping is a nice choice for a vacation I think. I did not try it yet.
I know the train tickets are expensive here. Maybe, in the near future, I will come to visit you, who knows 🙂
Hahaha! The book you already have it. So… I’ll send you more Mo-hugs for the trip ❤

It would be great to have you visit us in UK; we live in a beautiful part of this country too. But you might have to be quick; one of our aims this coming trip to Romania is to investigate the possibility of moving to Romania to live, perhaps next year! I got great news this morning; a top doctor in Iasi, father of one of my students at Liceul National in the city when I was teaching there, says he could continue my medical treatment if we move. That was a big factor in making the decision to move. Camping is great – we love it and Bucovina and Maramures is a must, must, must visit! ❣️

Wow! That’s a good news. A good doctor and a good treatment are hard to find.
Good luck, my friend ❤
