Petronela at the barbecue with ‘mici’ cookingAnother lovely autumn day. We have been lucky as one day is really awful, another beautiful, and they seem to be falling just right. Today was our friend Janet’s birthday and she planned a barbecue. Yesterday you would not have thought it possible. Today was perfect.

Romanian ‘mici’ are alway demanded for such occasions. For non-Romanian readers, these are small skinless ‘sausages’ with a special taste due to the unusual mix of spices. ‘Mici’ translated literally is ‘littles’. They should really be made with minced lamb but as Petronela won’t eat that she makes them with 50/50 beef/pork. Little they may be but big on taste; we’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love them (except, of course the vegetarians), especially the youngsters.

They were especially good today. The only improvement would have been if they were cooked on a wood fire, not a gas barbecue.
